The 'I am St. Thomas' Awards Dinner is a public recognition for extraordinary individuals who have embraced and carried out the mission of St. Thomas. These individuals were selected because they are real-life examples of the story of St. Thomas. These individuals are as unique as St. Thomas itself; but they all share its common foundation that permeates throughout the streets of the community it serves. It is a foundation focused on a..."love of God, love of people and love of learning" and is inspired by our faith in God to accept a multitude of challenges to fulfill the St. Thomas mission of "creating a blessed community in the heart of Los Angeles, one child at a time." Our mission is much more than a catchy slogan that is printed on all school literature, it is the fabric of daily school life.
Where did we get the idea of the school mission?
"Creating a blessed community..." is at the very core of Jesus' message of humility, charity, service and love. It is about the transformation of the inner person and ultimately the community. "Creating a blessed community..." is the essence of the Beatitudes.
The humility, love and service these men radiate are models of what "gives St. Thomas its incomparable spirit." It was a easy choice to selected the following individuals, who have personified the mission of St. Thomas, as the inaugural class of 2012: Bishop Dennis O'Neil, Bishop Alex Salazar, Bishop Gordon Bennett, and Msgr. Jarlath Cunnane.
We would like to thank everyone who made the first-ever "I am St. Thomas" Awards Dinner a huge success. We hope to see you again next year! Please enjoy the slideshow photos from that magical night.
